Severe storms moved through Thursday at 2:00-ish in the afternoon. 3 inches of rain, 65 MPH wind gusts, tons of lightning, and some hail. Our house lost power.

And, it’s still off. They don’t expect to have it back on until Saturday night or Sunday. The pole and line that have a tree on them are at the back of one of the cornfields my neighborhood is surrounded by and the ground is so saturated, the trucks can’t get back there.

Another storm moved through this morning. More wind, rain, lightning, and some hail. Again. I was driving to work and almost lost control of the car. A wind gust took me into the other lane. I gave up and pulled over. This morning, the wind gusts actually hit 70.

My wife and I just cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer. We lost all of our food. It’s 80 degrees in the house currently. But, we’re one of the only houses on our street without trees down or roof shingles missing.

This morning’s storm also peeled off shingles from our work building and they hit my managers’ cars. Scratched them surprisingly badly and even added a few dents.

Around town, there are also over 10,000 people without power, several trees down on cars and houses, and of course flooding.

Our homeowners’ policy is covering the food loss, which is good. And we had our agent assure us it won’t raise our deductible, thankfully.

Not going to lie, it scared the bejeezus out of me when the wind took control of my dang car this morning.

Indeed. It took my 6 across the road today like it was nothing.

I was able to personally avoid the worst of it but in my town the worst of it seemed to be downed limbs. The worst of the afternoon storms seemed to be to the south. Looked bad from afar, sorry to see that it was as bad as it looked.

I absolutely hate driving the Safari or Silverado when it’s windy outside. They get blown across the road like the rolling walls they are. The Silverado is especially bad because the wind gets up in the wheel wells and makes the front end feel light.

This was my first experience in my 6 in a bad storm. My 3 got blown all over the place because it was so small. I was surprised when that gust moved my 6 like it did.
